Scratch Song Project by Kate M.
Kate M., age 11, started a Programming in Scratch course on edX this week. Scratch gives young people the ability to code unique stories, games and animations and helps them learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. This edX course is a great starting point if you’ve never tried Scratch. Scratch is available free of charge to users at http://scratch.mit.edu/.
Here’s quick video introduction about the free online course:
The first part of this week’s lesson taught students the basics about the interface, as well as how to move blocks and create scripts. For their first project students had to make a song.

Next up, students will learn how to draw in Scratch. It is not too late to join the online course. If you do, we would love to share your creations here on First Draft Café.
